Position Description

Participants will assist the instructor during fitness classes. One on one and small groups will be targeted to maximize the learning experience for both the students in class and the participants. Participants will be responsible for creating a portfolio while in the experience reflecting all aspects of the experience and relating it to their field of study. Assisting with setting up and breaking down of equipment before and after class will be expected.

During the Service Learning opportunity, if the participant chooses to attend an ABC Hopes event, ABC Hopes will reimburse for travel expenses. If you are not CPR/First Aid trained, ABC Hopes will reimburse the cost after successful completion of the course. If you have not had a background check, ABC Hopes will cover the cost of that as well. Also, participant will receive ABC Hopes gear to wear while involved in the program!

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

• Participants will receive a hands on experience with students ranging in ages from 6-young adults in two different gym settings, working with two highly skilled instructors. 
• Participants will create a comprehensive portfolio while in the program reflecting all experiences as well as written responses to reflective questions provided by the instructor.
• Participants will be required to design portions of workouts based on the scope and sequence of the ABC Hopes program.

Desired Qualifications

Participants will be working with individuals with many different (dis)abilities: Each one unique in his/her needs. A positive attitude and enthusiastic energy is needed when working with these individuals.

Length of Position: One Semester

Hours per Week: 3-6
