Opportunity Summary 

Position Description

  • Patient services may include: companionship, socializing, supportive presence, memory support, reading to patient.
  • Office services: power point, filing and charting
  • Community Services: Street fairs
  • Bereavements services: follow up with families,after patient passing

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

  • The history, philosophy, and definitions of Hospice and Palliative Care
  • Discuss the Hospice Medicare Benefit (HMB), admission criteria, and the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT)
  • Review Advance Directives, Ethics, and Patients' Rights
  • Recognize communication skills, family dynamics, and cultural diversity 
  • Explore psychosocial and sensitive issues Interpret family dynamics, spiritual issues, and bereavement
  • Learn infection control and safety proceedures
  • Discuss hospice patient care, comfort measures, and the dying process
  • Apply appropriate confidentiality, QAPI, and HIPPA standards 
  • Define the role of the Hospice Volunteer, specific policies and procedures and self-care

  • Interest serving others
  • Valid Drivers licence
  • Car Insurance
  • Available 2 to 4 Hours a week
