Internship Position Description
The Oceanside Police Department offers unpaid internships for college students and professionals seeking a career in a criminal justice related field of work. Interns may work in various divisions of the Department over a six month period, gaining exposure and insight into the different facets of modern policing.
Experience to be gained
Experience in various administrative tasks associated with modern law enforcement within the larger structure of Municipal Governance, in service to the community of Oceanside.
Desired Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate, with a minimum of 30 units earned, with a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Possess initiative and be creative in order to accomplish objectives
- Function effectively with minimal supervision
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a background investigation
Application Instructions
Applications will be accepted three times each year: October (Spring session); April (Summer session); June (Fall session). Complete an online Intern Application found on the City of Oceanside Website: https://www.ci.oceanside.ca.us/gov/hr/police_internship.asp; attach additional documents: cover letter and resume, two letters of reference and current unofficial transcripts; background investigation packet to be completed prior to acceptance in the internship program.
