The store is open to the public to deliver our sustainable program resources, sell composting supplies, and recycle E-waste, U-waste, and flimsy plastics. Volunteers will assist with: e-waste collection, rain barrel distribution, Food Cycle bucket exchange, and curbside pickup of composting supplies. Volunteers will direct customers to fill out appropriate forms for e-waste collection and Food Cycle bucket exchanges, as well as verify order information for customers picking up composting supplies and direct them to item pickup.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Volunteers can volunteer for this opportunity as often and as long as they would like. This experience will give volunteers the opportunity to learn about public community programs and services such as recycling and composting and how these services function on the back-end. Store volunteers also function as a liaison into our free programming on the topics of composting, recycling, and gardening. Store volunteers gain an understanding of the problem of E-waste in our community and directly interact with our community, occasionally offering composting advice for those wishing to start in their own backyards.

Opportunity Training

Students receive training on how to run the store and support from staff as needed. Students will need to complete some reading on our blog about various topics in regard to compost, water conservation, and reducing our waste stream.
