Opportunity Summary 

Students will assist the San Luis Obispo Coast District Archaeologist in a variety of field, lab and office tasks. Students will learn the basics of environmental review process and implementation at the state agency level. Students will learn the basics of archaeological field survey, managing cultural resources and preparing information for educational interpretive use for the public.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Environmental law and review at the CA state agency level, field survey of cultural resources, management of cultural resources and museum interpretive content for natural and cultural resources for education for the public.

Opportunity Training 

In the field training and in the office training by myself (the District Archaeologist)

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will be going out into the field for survey and the basics of hiking will be required. Natural elements will be present in the vicinity but not subject to direct contact such as poison oak, snakes and ticks.
