VolunteerAt — The New Children's Museum

Opportunity Summary 

The New Children's Museum is looking for students to volunteer in their new satellite location in Del Mar Plaza, the Art + Play Space. Students will have an opportunity to work directly with children as they engage in a range of activities (large immersive art installation, chalk wall, building blocks, reading, painting) as well as in our makerspace with hands-on art-making. Students will have an opportunity to work with an artist in the makerspace in drop-in and fee-based classes.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Engaging with toddlers and young children in a creative environment
Assisting and encouraging children to explore their creativity
Supervising children of varying ages as they engage and learn social skills

Opportunity Training 

Students will be trained by our general manager to oversee children in creative activities - how and when to engage and facilitate.
Students will be trained by our assistant manager (a teaching artist) on how to instruct in hands-on art-making.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Per the above, visitors, staff and volunteers will all wear masks in the space. Other than that, there are few safety issues.
