Opportunity Summary 

This opportunity will allow students to organize research, curriculum and resources to support the goals of California Indian Education for All. Students will design online resources that support culturally responsive teaching for K-12 educators. Projects will include designing asynchronous professional learning for teachers and schools to educate children and youth about the diverse histories, cultures and contributions of California Native peoples. Our goal is to create culturally responsive resources that improve representations and classroom climates for teaching and learning about California's first people.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

The student will learn how to research and design culturally competent learning materials that improve representations and classroom climates for teaching and learning about American Indian people. The student will learn how to design and edit Canvas Learning Management courses for asynchronous learning. The student will learn how to design social media materials to publicize events and resources for California Indian Education for All. The student will learn how educators evaluate instructional materials through a culturally responsive lens. The student will learn how to create indigenized instructional resources for classroom teachers. The student will learn how to thoughtfully engage in partnership with Tribal Education Agencies to research tribally-written educational materials. The student will learn indigenized professional learning from notable American Indian educational scholars and cultural experts. The student will learn and design innovative ways to improve literacy outcomes for American Indian students in traditional and dual language settings.

Opportunity Training 

Asynchronous and LIVE professional learning for culturally responsive instruction, Canvas LMS course design training, Canva design lab training, Google Suite training, and research training.
