Opportunity Summary 

This internship works in Special Collections, the University Library department responsible for acquiring, preserving, and making accessible resources related to North San Diego County's cultural heritage and history. Students will have the opportunity to work with archival materials like records, photographic prints, negatives, correspondence, and government documents related to a wide range of subjects including North County's communities, history, and news.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will work with three aspects of Special Collections work, providing the following learning outcomes: * Demonstrated understanding of the processing of physical materials in archives * Demonstrated understanding of the digitization process for archival preservation and access * Demonstrated understanding of the creation of metadata (descriptive and administrative data about objects/resources) * Demonstrated understanding of oral history processing, including transcription work, metadata creation, and online access

Opportunity Training 

Training will be provided by the library through a combination of guided readings and direct supervision.

Opportunity Application Instructions 

Students will be interviewed from a pool of History 495C undergraduate student applicants. Interviews will consist of questions over a phone/Zoom interview. Students should submit a resume for the application process.
