Opportunity Summary 

The CHABSS Communications intern is an important part of the communications team for the College, overall, and the Dean’s Office. This position will report to the College Communications Specialist (supervisor) with whom they will meet regularly, along with other staff in the CHABSS Dean’s Office. Under general guidance and supervision, the communications intern will be responsible for reviewing, creating, and posting to the College’s social media including, but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn. Work for this position will also include learning about the College, the departments/programs and majors contained therein, participate in the development/revision of a communications plan & social media strategy, and design visuals/graphics to meet the needs of the College (ensuring the use of appropriate school-related and student-engaging material). This position will have a mix of collaborative and independent work. The CHABSS Communications Internship represents a significant learning and professional development opportunity.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Interns will have gained valuable experience and knowledge in the management of social media platforms. Interns will have collaborated with a team of professionals and learned to meet the complex and competing demands with multiple constituencies and perspectives to consider. Interns will have navigated and understand how to prioritize the demands of a professional communications portfolio. Interns will have learned and practiced how to research necessary information, how to build connections with colleagues in-office as well as in other offices, and how to network with students, faculty, and staff.

Opportunity Training 

Interns will be provided general training on the use of social media and specific training on social media/communications at CSUSM and in CHABSS. The campus also offers some workshops and general technical support for any additional needs.
