Defined interns from the Bridges program will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on research in stem cell culture and gain first-hand experience at a young biotech company in Sorrento Valley. Projects will focus on Defined’s mission of developing fully-defined, animal/serum-free, and low-cost ingredients for stem cell culture.
Interns will work closely with the Defined Bioscience team, acquiring direct laboratory experience and training in rigorous and precise stem cell culture methods and applications. Example responsibilities for Bridges interns include routine culture and maintenance of a variety of stem cell lines, assessment of novel reagents via cell viability/cytometric analysis/karyotyping, downstream differentiation and expansion for a variety of applications, production of protein growth factors using recombinant expression systems and chromatography/analyses, maintenance of reagents and protocols, and frequent presentations at group meetings for project assessment. Additionally, the Defined Bioscience team has a wide range of collective experiences, including scientific research, entrepreneurship, and business management, and intends to actively engage its interns in discussions of life and career goals.
1 hour sexual harassment prevention training, 3-4 hours laboratory safety training.
