Opportunity Summary 

1. Join any of our Public Beach Cleanups: From IB to Oceanside, we hold up to five public beach cleanups county wide every month. During these cleanups, volunteers gather at a beach to remove litter and debris, helping to preserve the environment and protect marine life while promoting awareness of coastal pollution issues. 2 hours of service per cleanup. No pre-training required. You can sign up here: https://sandiego.surfrider.org/beachcleanups

2. Site Support for Beach Cleanup: Join the site support team for beach cleanups. Arrive early to assist the Site Captain with setup, document organization, and supply distribution. During the cleanup, help with check-in, support volunteers, manage the station as needed, and aid in trash consolidation. Afterward, assist with packing and loading. Expect about 3 hours of service per cleanup. Mandatory orientation required.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

1. Environmental Awareness: They become more aware of the impact of litter and pollution on beaches and oceans, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility.

2. Conservation: Students learn the importance of preserving natural habitats and protecting marine life.

3. Teamwork: Collaboration with other volunteers teaches teamwork and cooperation.

4.Civic Engagement: Involvement in community cleanups encourages active citizenship and civic responsibility.

5. Practical Skills: They acquire practical skills in organizing, logistics, and waste management.

6. Advocacy: Participation may inspire them to advocate for environmental causes and policy changes.

7. Personal Responsibility: They understand the role individuals play in maintaining clean and healthy ecosystems.

February 19, 2024 to receive information on attending a mandatory orientation on February 21, 2024 from 5:30-6:30pm for Spring 2024.

September 16, 2024 to receive information on attending a mandatory orientation on September 18, 2023 from 5:30-6:30pm for Fall 2024.
