Opportunity Summary 

This internship offers students the chance to gain experience in our Community Advancement Department, where they will learn the essentials of philanthropy, development, fundraising, and community engagement. Interns will play a role in promoting the mission of the California Center for the Arts, Escondido Foundation. With a mission dedicated to uniting people through the discovery, creation, and celebration of both visual and performing arts, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido stands as the cultural hub of North San Diego County.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students participating in this opportunity may acquire the following skills and knowledge: - Provide support at membership tables during Center-presented performances, events, or festivals as required. - Assist in organizing donor events, such as the annual fundraiser, Cal Clubs, and Museum receptions. - Foster connections with nearby businesses and organizations. - Represent CCAEF at local business meetings. - Secure donations from local businesses for fundraisers. - Aid in gathering community feedback. - Collaborate with the Managers to handle office calls and respond to inquiries, requests, and feedback from donors and members. - Aid the Managers in managing member renewals, including monitoring renewal dates, drafting letters, sending acknowledgments, and documenting contributions. - Proofread development materials and correspondence. - Generate reports using databases and spreadsheets. - Offer clerical and administrative assistance to the team, encompassing reviewing correspondence, processing invoices, managing office supplies, supporting Development-related projects and events, and more. - Arrange and maintain the organization of the development work area and storage space. - Support the Managers in organizing donor and membership records. - Undertake oversight of the membership program, involving data entry, monitoring retention rates and renewal dates, executing renewal procedures, drafting renewal letters, issuing acknowledgments, managing gift memberships, and overseeing member benefits. - Collaborate with the Managers to engage and retain members through communication and engagement strategies. - Assist the Managers in reconnecting with lapsed members through monthly calls, mailings, and email outreach. - Monitor and manage member benefits, and generate reports on membership demographics, including geographic distribution, household income, and giving patterns. - Maintain the donor database and all related files, process donations and acknowledgment letters, and supervise mailings to members and donors. - Compile reports and coordinate donor communications, including stewardship items, appeals, invitations, brochures, etc. - Prepare reports as needed for departmental requirements and Board meetings, utilizing databases and spreadsheets. - Assist the Managers with prospect research for individual and corporate supporters, as well as grant research and applications when necessary. - Collaborate with the Marketing team on sponsor benefits, website updates, and donor communication materials.

Opportunity Training 

Students will undergo company orientation training, receive direct guidance from their supervisor, including shadowing opportunities, and gain access to the organization's virtual training library.
