Interfaith Family Shelter offers an immersive and comprehensive internship experience, designed to equip students with practical knowledge and skills in social services, case management, and behavioral health. As an intern, you will work closely with our program staff, providing direct support to residents and gaining hands-on experience in a variety of critical tasks that prepare you for a future in the field. This internship offers a robust learning experience, combining direct client interaction with valuable administrative and case management duties. You will gain insight into crisis intervention, case management, and service delivery in a real-world setting. It’s an ideal opportunity for students pursuing careers in social work, counseling, psychology, or related fields who are looking to develop hands-on skills and contribute meaningfully to a community-focused program. We encourage applicants who are passionate about social services and community building to apply. This internship will equip you with the foundational skills necessary for a successful career in the field.
On the first day of their internship, students will be granted access to a mental health training series. These trainings cover key topics that will provide essential knowledge and skills to support their work throughout the internship. The content is designed to enhance their understanding of mental health principles and interventions, ensuring that they are prepared to engage effectively with the clients they serve. Students will receive onboarding/integration into the program from staff while also having the opportunity to shadow staff members in the program. In addition to the training series, students will also have the opportunity to sign up for and participate in additional behavioral health-related trainings during their internship. These optional trainings will allow them to gain exposure to different subject matter within the field of behavioral health and stay current with best practices in the field. By the end of the internship, students will have gained valuable theoretical and practical knowledge that will strengthen their professional development and prepare them for future roles in the mental health and social services sectors.
The shelter is considered to be a low barrier. Due to the vulnerability of the clients, clients are more susceptible to experiencing crisis.
The student has already submitted a field matching application to Interfaith and has successfully completed an interview with the program manager.
