Leadership and Mentorship: By guiding and supporting students, tutors build leadership qualities and learn to inspire others toward academic success. Problem-Solving: Tutors strengthen their critical thinking as they help students navigate challenging questions and develop solutions collaboratively. Collaboration: Working closely with teachers and peers fosters teamwork and the ability to contribute in group settings. Organizational Skills: Tutors practice effective time management and utilize AVID strategies like note-taking and goal-setting to support structured learning. Cultural Competence: Supporting a diverse student population promotes understanding and sensitivity toward different perspectives.
Yearly Training: A seven-hour annual training session led by RCOE ARC coordinators. Covers AVID methodologies, tutorial strategies, and best practices for fostering student success. Ongoing Support: Weekly meetings with the site coordinator to review responsibilities, refine techniques, and address challenges. Continuous feedback and support to help tutors grow in their role.
Supervised Environment: Tutors work in a structured, supervised school setting under the guidance of a site coordinator and classroom teacher. Safe Student Interactions: Tutors are trained on appropriate communication and interaction with students to maintain a professional and respectful environment. Emergency Procedures: Tutors receive information on school emergency protocols, including fire drills, lockdown procedures, and first aid support. Reporting Mechanisms: Tutors are encouraged to report any concerns or incidents to the site coordinator or school staff immediately.
