AVID TutorAt — Escondido Union School District
AVID tutors will be trained on how to lead and interact with middle school students on how to ask high level questions and in turn help students think for themselves and arrive at the answer to their questions by way of socratic questioning. Tutors will also guide students on how to ask high level questions to better understand rigorous material. Beyond the academics, tutors are encouraged to connect with the students and build relational capacity and provide mentorship while being a role model for future college going students. AVID Tutors will assist the classroom teacher in managing the materials, grading and other classroom management opportunities along the way.
Interns will learn how to manage classroom behavior, how to build relationship with boundaries with students while facilitating learning in content area that students struggle in. The content is often math, science and how to study or manage time. Tutors will be treated like a staff member of our school and build relationships on campus. Some interns may visit other content classes to observe teachers in content areas that interest them. Often our AVID tutors become teachers and even administrators.
There is a required 15 hour in person and online AVID tutor training and certification program that can be used for the candidates resume.
