Opportunity Summary 

We are seeking dedicated and passionate volunteers to join our team as reading mentors. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in providing academic and reading support to our youth ages 7-8 years old. The goal is to promote early literacy and a love for reading, and improve academic achievement.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

As a reading mentor, you will gain hands-on experience supporting early literacy while developing skills in tutoring, communication, and youth engagement. You’ll learn effective reading strategies, classroom management techniques, and how to adapt to different learning styles. This opportunity also provides insight into child development and education while allowing you to make a meaningful impact by building young readers' confidence and fostering a love for learning.

Opportunity Training 

Students must complete an online training on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention through Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Additionally, volunteers are required to attend a one-hour orientation and tour of the main facility to gain a deeper understanding of BGCSM's mission and values.

Opportunity Application Instructions 

Students are required to submit an online application online: https://www.boysgirlsclubsm.org/volunteer. The Events & Volunteer Coordinator will contact students based on availability and skills and conduct a phone screening prior to scheduling an orientation.
