Opportunity Summary

Our immigration law firm offers a hands-on college internship for students interested in law, social justice, and immigrant advocacy. Interns will assist with client intake, case preparation, legal research, and document drafting under the supervision of an experienced immigration attorney. Tasks may include organizing case files, translating documents, and observing court proceedings or USCIS interviews. This internship provides practical exposure to family-based immigration, asylum, removal defense, and humanitarian relief cases. Interns will gain insight into the U.S. immigration system, develop professional skills, and contribute meaningfully to serving immigrant communities. Applicants should be detail-oriented, organized, and respectful of client confidentiality. Strong communication skills and an interest in immigrant rights are preferred. This is an unpaid position, but it offers valuable experience for students considering careers in law, public policy, or non-profit advocacy. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate academic commitments.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Interns at our immigration law firm will develop strong legal research and writing skills, learning how to analyze statutes, regulations, and case law relevant to immigration matters. They will gain experience in drafting legal documents, client declarations, and correspondence with government agencies. Students will strengthen organizational abilities by managing case files, tracking deadlines, and preparing evidence for hearings or applications. They will enhance communication skills through client interactions, including conducting intake interviews and explaining legal processes in clear, accessible terms. Interns will also build cultural competency by working with clients from diverse backgrounds and navigating language barriers. Observing court proceedings and USCIS interviews will provide valuable insight into legal advocacy and courtroom procedure. By the end of the internship, students will have a deeper understanding of the immigration system, improved professional skills, and practical experience that will benefit future academic and career endeavors.

Opportunity Training

Interns will receive comprehensive training to prepare them for meaningful contributions to the firm’s work. Initial orientation will cover confidentiality, professional ethics, and an overview of immigration law and procedures. They will be trained on case management systems, document organization, and proper file handling. Instruction will be provided on conducting client intakes, preparing declarations, and assembling evidence for applications and hearings. Interns will learn legal research techniques using online and print resources, as well as best practices for drafting clear and persuasive legal documents. Training will also address effective communication with clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Guidance will be provided on observing court proceedings and attorney-client meetings.
