Special Investigation Unit InternAt — Argus West Investigations

Opportunity Summary

This internship provides students with valuable exposure to the medical and investigative aspects of workers’ compensation claims. Interns will gain hands-on experience in obtaining surveillance of injured workers and comparing their daily activities to what they have reported to their primary treating physician. A major part of the role includes conducting an extensive review of prior medical records to evaluate whether the injured worker has been credible in disclosing past injuries or conditions. This process is essential for accurately applying apportionment, which determines how much permanent disability is truly owed as a result of the work-related injury. Students will also develop critical thinking skills while learning how medical evidence shapes legal and financial outcomes, making this an excellent opportunity for those interested in medicine, law, or investigations.

They will develop the ability to critically review and analyze medical records to determine whether an injured worker has been credible in reporting prior injuries and conditions. Students will gain hands-on experience in applying the concept of apportionment, learning how medical history affects the determination of permanent disability owed for a work-related injury.
