Opportunity Summary

An opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team to extract energy from mud to power sensors underwater.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Students will work with ultra-low power electronics or, examine places where it is possible to decrease power needed by sensors such as optimization of duty cycles to extract power from sediments and increase power generation by bacteria. This includes increasing surface area of both anode and cathode; or designing of form factors to deliver units from a variety of opportune methods. As well, understand the mechanistic properties of the microorganisms to increase electron flow and hence, increase power generation.
