Opportunity Summary 

We’re seeking a motivated Marketing Intern to support social media initiatives for a statewide program providing parents and caregivers with educational resources to promote children’s social, emotional, and physical well-being. In this role, you’ll help plan, create, and execute engaging social media activations that connect with parents, caregivers, and community partners while gaining hands-on experience in digital marketing and making a meaningful impact on families across California. Key Responsibilities include developing and scheduling content across multiple platforms; coordinating campaigns, contests, and live activations; monitoring social channels for engagement opportunities and feedback; supporting analytics tracking and reporting to measure performance; and collaborating with the marketing team to brainstorm new ideas and creative strategies. Ideal Candidates are currently enrolled in a Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related program; have a strong interest in social media, content creation, and community engagement; and demonstrate excellent writing and organizational skills.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

As a Marketing Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience working directly on real social media campaigns for a statewide initiative. You’ll strengthen your skills in strategy, content creation, community engagement, and analytics while building a portfolio of work you can showcase to future employers. Throughout the internship, you’ll receive mentorship from experienced marketing professionals and have the chance to network with public agencies and nonprofit partners. You’ll also gain valuable insight into how communications strategies are developed and executed for a government-funded, mission-driven organization, giving you exposure to project management, cross-team collaboration, and reporting practices that will prepare you for future roles in marketing, public relations, or community outreach. Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by contributing to initiatives that support families and children’s social, emotional, and physical well-being across California.

Opportunity Training 

Interns will receive comprehensive, hands-on training designed to build confidence and skills in social media marketing for a mission-driven organization. This includes onboarding to the brand voice, content guidelines, and target audiences; instruction on how to use scheduling, analytics, and engagement tools; and guidance on developing and executing social media campaigns from concept to completion. You’ll also learn best practices for writing copy, creating visuals, tracking metrics, and reporting results. Throughout the internship, you’ll be supported by experienced marketing professionals who will provide feedback, mentorship, and opportunities to observe and participate in team strategy meetings—ensuring you gain both practical skills and an understanding of how marketing functions within a statewide public initiative.
