Youth Fellow At — San Diego Organizing Project
The role of an SDOP Youth Fellow is to identify, recruit, and develop volunteer youth leaders from local faith communities and schools across San Diego into a regional youth organizing team, and to develop that team to exercise their collective power and agency by putting their faith into action in the public square. A Youth Fellow supports the Youth Organizer in conducting community outreach, identifying priority issues for youth in the San Diego region, and executing public action to create solutions to community problems, learning to develop a deep regional power analysis and political strategy along the way. Together, we work to create more equitable systems by advocating for policy change. Fellows see themselves, and their success, in the development and uplifting of others.
Throught this work some skills that can be aquired is leadership development, community organizing, and relationship-building with diverse stakeholders; voter outreach and civic engagement; data entry and analysis using BLOCKS and PDI; public speaking and facilitation; project management and teamwork; strategic thinking; and effective communication and outreach skills.
Students will receive training in our organizing model (approximately 8–12 hours of workshop sessions), as well as mandatory trainings such as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), anti-harassment, and organizational policies. For roles involving work with minors or vulnerable populations, Mandated Reporter training will also be required and provided.
