Opportunity Summary 

We offer an outpatient hand therapy internship for individuals interested in upper extremity and hand rehabilitation. This experience provides exposure to post-operative and non-operative hand, wrist, and elbow conditions. Students will observe and assist with evaluations, therapeutic activities, edema and scar management, and functional task training. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, anatomy, and occupation-based interventions under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists. This internship is designed to support skill development, professional growth, and a deeper understanding of outpatient hand therapy practice.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will gain foundational knowledge of upper extremity anatomy, common hand diagnoses, and outpatient hand therapy practice. Skills may include basic splinting concepts, therapeutic activities, edema and scar management, clinical reasoning, and professional communication under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive an initial orientation and ongoing supervision by licensed occupational therapists throughout the internship. Training includes clinic policies, safety procedures, documentation expectations, and hands-on guidance appropriate to the student’s level of education. The patient population ranges from young adults to older adults. Mandated Reporter training is required and will be provided prior to any patient interaction.
