Opportunity Summary

This opportunity provides students with a structured, observation-based experience in an outpatient orthopedic and sports physical therapy clinic. The Physical Therapy Intern will observe licensed physical therapists during patient evaluations and treatment sessions to gain exposure to clinical decision-making, rehabilitation progression, and evidence-based practice. Students will learn how physical therapists assess movement, select interventions, communicate with patients, and manage clinic flow. This experience is designed to help students explore the physical therapy profession, better understand real-world clinical practice, and determine interest in pursuing a career in healthcare, while maintaining a non-hands-on, observation-focused role.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

By the end of the opportunity, students will gain an understanding of outpatient physical therapy practice, including common orthopedic conditions, post-operative rehabilitation timelines, and therapeutic exercise progressions. Students will develop observational skills related to movement assessment, patient education strategies, and clinical reasoning used to progress care. Additional learning outcomes include professional communication, ethical considerations in healthcare, documentation workflows, and an understanding of interdisciplinary clinic operations. Students will build familiarity with the physical therapy environment while strengthening their readiness for future academic or clinical experiences.
