InternAt — Brother Benno Foundation
The Brother Benno Foundation offers a hands-on internship for individuals interested in nonprofit operations and community service. Interns support programs serving individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in North County San Diego through responsibilities such as volunteer coordination support, data entry and reporting, outreach assistance, and daily program operations.
• Program Support & Client Engagement: Assisting with daily services, learning trauma-informed communication, and understanding referral processes. • Volunteer Coordination: Supporting scheduling, communication, and tracking to strengthen organized volunteer engagement. • Data Management & Reporting: Conducting accurate data entry and learning how service data informs funding and program improvement. • Community Outreach: Assisting with events and partner communication to expand community impact. • Professional Skills: Building teamwork, time management, ethical decision-making, confidentiality awareness, and problem-solving in a mission-driven environment serving vulnerable populations.
Students receive comprehensive internal training aligned with their assigned responsibilities. This includes an initial orientation covering organizational mission, policies, safety procedures, confidentiality, and professional expectations, followed by hands-on instruction and supervised practice specific to their role.
Please note: This internship may present additional risks due to being in an area with elevated crime statistics and/or working with individuals who may have a criminal background. Increased situation awareness should be exercised and extra care and precautions for personal safety should be taken. Ensure that you meet with your site supervisor to understand the increased risk in completing your internship at this site, as well as the appropriate measures you can take to mitigate and/or respond to these risks. Your orientation at the site should also include a general site safety orientation.
