Case Support InternAt — Escondido Education COMPACT

Opportunity Summary 

Interns will work under supervision within the Housing Department, Juvenile Justice Department, or Achievement Center. Interns assist with intakes, case notes, referrals, client follow-ups, housing and basic need resource navigation, and coordination of services.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of this opportunity, students will have gained knowledge of gang prevention strategies, trauma‑informed care, and positive youth development principles. Students will develop skills in mentorship, communication, cultural competency, professionalism, advocacy, and community engagement. Participants will learn how to build trust with at‑risk youth, support goal‑setting, and promote positive alternatives to gang involvement. Students will also gain exposure to program coordination, community outreach, and impact evaluation, preparing them for careers in social services, education, and justice‑related fields.

Opportunity Training 

All required trainings are available to interested interns and service learning participants on a monthly basis during COMPACT staff meetings held on Mondays, or upon request of the site supervisor. Trainings may include, but are not limited to: Mandated Reporter Training Trauma‑Informed Care Positive Youth Development Cultural Awareness (including gangs in North County) Sexual Harassment Prevention Program‑specific orientation and procedures Additional training and guidance are provided as needed to ensure students are prepared to perform their responsibilities successfully and in alignment with program and safety requirements.
