IT Technician Intern At — San Diego Futures Foundation
Students will gain hands-on experience working alongside our experienced computer technicians, learning essential IT skills such as computer refurbishment, secure data wiping, and operating system reimaging. Through direct participation in these processes, students will develop practical technical knowledge and build confidence in supporting computer hardware and technology systems.
Students will develop practical skills in computer repair while gaining valuable workplace experience. In addition to technical knowledge, they will strengthen their customer service, communication, teamwork, and time management skills, helping them build the professional competencies needed for success in both educational and career settings.
Students will receive hands-on experience for 2 to 4 hours per session, twice per week, based on their availability, for a total of 150 training hours. During the program, students will work alongside our technicians and receive practical training in data wiping, computer reimaging, and hardware replacement. They will also gain experience sorting, organizing, and processing incoming technology inventory. This exposure will help students learn about different types, models, and generations of technology equipment, as well as understand key specifications such as memory, RAM, storage capacity, and device size. Through these activities, students will develop valuable technical skills and gain real-world experience in IT operations and hardware management.
We maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety through comprehensive policies and procedures. Our safety program is overseen by a designated Safety Officer and supported by an active Safety Committee. We conduct emergency preparedness drills four times each year and perform annual safety inspections of both our warehouse and office facilities to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. We are also committed to accessibility and inclusion. Our facility provides an accessible work environment for students who are visually impaired and those with other disabilities, ensuring all participants succeed.
Students interested in participating in the internship program can visit the SDFF website and complete the Volunteer/Intern Application form online. Once an application is received, a team member will schedule a brief phone or in-person interview. Students will complete enrollment forms and establish their start date. Throughout the internship, students are required to sign in and out daily to track hours and attendance. Participating students will also be eligible for a 50% discount on the purchase of a computer, with a maximum discount value of up to $500 total.
