Are you a college student interested in becoming a teacher, counselor, school psychologist, or education professional? The California Mini-Corps (CMC) Program offers a unique opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while supporting migratory students in grades TK–12 in public schools in North San Diego County. As a CMC tutor, you’ll work directly with students, strengthen your professional and leadership skills, and learn how to effectively serve culturally and linguistically diverse communities. We especially encourage students with migrant or farmworker backgrounds who are bilingual or multilingual and passionate about helping students succeed. By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned to: Apply effective tutoring and instructional strategies to support migratory students in grades TK–12. Develop culturally and linguistically responsive practices for working with diverse students and families. Build positive relationships with students while promoting academic achievement, confidence, and engagement. Strengthen communication, leadership, classroom management, and problem-solving skills. Collaborate professionally with teachers, school staff, supervisors, and other education professionals. Identify student strengths and learning needs and adapt academic support accordingly. Demonstrate professionalism, including reliability, confidentiality, ethical behavior, teamwork, and responsibility. Connect college coursework to hands-on experience in public school settings. Gain practical knowledge of careers in teaching, counseling, school psychology, and related education fields. Develop greater confidence and professional readiness to effectively serve migratory and culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Be available and commit to attending one Saturday training each month to strengthen professional knowledge and skills. Demonstrate a willingness to learn, grow, and develop professionally as a CMC Tutor. Be open and receptive to constructive feedback, coaching, and guidance and apply feedback to continuously improve performance and effectiveness when working with students.
Students must complete all required Keenan trainings provided through the Butte County Office of Education before being assigned to and working at a public school site.
