Opportunity Summary 

Position Description

  • Pedro is a preparedness penguin teaching kids how to prepare themselves and their families for disasters.
  • The 45 minute to 1 hour presentation provides emergency preparedness education to youth in grades K-2 (ages 4-7) in school classrooms and other settings. The highly interactive presentation addresses home fire safety, a local natural hazard, psycho-social coping skills and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit. 

 

  • Interactively read the Prepare with Pedro story book to K-2 grade children
  • Presentations given to youth in schools and community settings
  • Assist with community outreach to schedule presentations
  • Support team in reaching key groups within the region, such as support to military families, at risk youth, etc. 
  • Ensure all reporting data for each presentation given is collected and given to regional staff in a timely manner

Other roles include: presentation assistant, administrative support/scheduler, or presenter trainer

Desired Qualifications

  • Must be available during children's school hours, typically Mon-Fri, 9am-3pm
  • Be engaging, interactive, and expressive
  • Can command a room of 3-7 year old children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a bonus!

Length of position: 16 weeks or longer

Hours per week: 2 hours per week or more if needed
