Position Description

Help us build a volunteer-driven workforce at the Red Cross! Do you enjoy building relationships, shaping culture, and broadening your own professional network? This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in HR, workforce engagement, leadership innovation, people analytics, bottom-up approaches, and how social capital affects mission impact.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

  • Get to know what motivates and inspires Red Cross volunteers, soliciting feedback and finding solutions to barriers to success
  • Create innovative ways to improve collaboration across departments (Disaster Services, Media/Communications, Service to the Armed Forces, and more)
  • Solicit feedback from volunteers about their experience and provide recommendations to staff for improvements
  • Support departments in volunteer management best practices
  • Seek creative ways to keep volunteers active, consistent, and connected to the mission of the Red Cross
  • Monitor volunteer activity to gauge level of engagement
  • Support the planning and execution of Volunteer Appreciation events
  • Address volunteer HR issues as needed, actively listening to volunteer concerns
  • Learn the Red Cross “CRM” software or customer relationship management tool called Volunteer Connection
  • Gain insights and access to one of San Diego’s leading nonprofits

Preferred Availability:

  • Typical business hours Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm
  • Minimum 3 hrs/wk for 6 months-1 year
  • Special events may occur on the weekend
