Our program is unique in a variety of ways. Firstly, we are outdoors unless weather does not permit it. (ie High AQI, Extreme Heat, Stormy rain). The children self direct their own play so we learn to observe and understand the children's play needs. We manage the spaces for children’s play while being invisible and unobtrusive to the children; Leaves the children free to play for themselves but we intervene in carefully measured ways to support the play process. We are aware of her own playfulness but does not impose it on the children. We are devoted to the playing of the children but shuns the popular Pied Piper or leader role. We reflect daily on our encounters with the children and observations of interactions between the children and between the environment and the children
Students will learn when to intervene and when to allow conflict resolution without an adults support. They will begin to recognize the cues children give us that helps determine their needs. We will not be involved unless invited. We see the interests of the children and expose them to different materials based on these interests. We learn to reflect to deeply understand our own thoughts and observations. The students will learn to set up environments to invite the children to various exploration opportunities.
We will teach about Play Work and the Adventure playground philosophy, we will teach a reflection tool and will require journaling of observations, we will teach them how to understand a child's play cue, when and how to intervene or help children, and we will teach them how to change the environment to keep the flow of play going.
Play Adventures are outdoors so come prepared for weather and bring water and snack
