Downtown Business Mapping and ListingAt — Modesto Downtown Improvement District
Work with the DID to audit specified downtown businesses to confirm that 1) the business on file is still at the same address 2) whether a new/different business is at the address, or 3) there is no business at the address on file. Update existing spreadsheet and/or documents with information found. Provide map updates, where needed.
How to effectively find a business both online and by canvassing an area. Students will learn techniques to identify whether a specified location houses an existing business, new business or is vacant. Project requires attention to detail and excellent notetaking, to compile into spreadsheet and/or documents after audits are completed.
Scope of project and instructions will be provided in written and verbal form. Site Supervisor will demonstrate how to map and list in the field and be available to help students input notes into existing spreadsheet and any other computer files.
Participants will be walking in a downtown area with a clipboard. They must be aware of their surroundings, obey traffic signals, and watch for vehicles and pedestrians while walking. I will be present to help navigate any unforeseen safety situations. For other safety or security concerns, our Clean & Safe team will be out in the field within the DID boundary and available in-person or on-call, as needed.
Site Supervisor will do a phone and/or in person interview, with preference given to students who have been referred by CSUS Geography Department.
