Hospice Medical Social Worker InternshipAt — A Plus Prime Care Hospice
This internship will provide the opportunity for interns to collaborate with MSWs, physicians, registered nurses and supporting clinical staff within the hospice field to create, deliver and provide services directly to patients and families impacted by end of life situations.
Students will be able to experience MSW orientation to hospice program. Students will shadow experienced MSWs in patient outreach. They will learn psychosocial assessments and ways in which to complete assessments. Students will learn in various environments including patient homes, care facilities and hospitals. Students will learn the impact of emotional support to dying individuals and their families as well as learn valuable resources from the community that can aid families in times of acute need or crisis. Students will have the opportunity to develop assessment skills needed in multiple dynamics within the family unit. Students will be able to provide input to the MSW as to their observations while with patients and families. Students will experience the dying process and how to support families through this process. Students will engage with local mortuaries, cemeteries, county coroner offices, APS offices and local community agencies that all provide support roles to the hospice program. Students will have the ability to participate in Interdisciplinary Group Meetings on a weekly basis.
