Opportunity Summary 

The Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing hosts multiple opportunities for interns each semester. Positions are available in the areas of videography, photography, graphic design, web, marketing, social media and communications. See the details below. Applicants will be placed in the area that best aligns with their skills, experience and learning goals.

 

Position: Videography/Photography Intern

Description: Are you a creative visual storyteller? Are you looking to grow your professional portfolio? We are currently recruiting several self-motivated student videographers/photographers to join our team in a semester-long volunteer internship. Working on story development with our Creative Team and paired with a graphic designer, our interns create lively short videos that share the unique stories of Stan State. These videos are posted on the University’s website and social media channels, and can be shared with local media outlets. See examples of past intern-produced videos on the University’s YouTube channel.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Film, interview, edit and produce weekly 1-minute videos for the Warrior Weekly Roundup and up to five 2-minute videos per semester for the Office of Communications and Public Affairs
  • Responsible for quality video documentation of campus life, recording select events and leading the artistic methods used to capture marketing messages for Stan State
  • Make technical decisions regarding such elements as appropriate lighting, photography composition, shooting angle and recording of audio
  • Develop and distribute compelling videos, assuring the high-quality video by delivering consistency in exposure, focus, audio levels and composition
  • Meet regularly to discuss and review storyboard concepts, filming objectives and production timeline

Qualifications:

  • Filming and video editing experience
  • Strong and thorough understanding of videography and photography including production planning, project leadership, lighting techniques, audio recording, video/still camera operation techniques and post production editing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive attitude and a passion for working across multiple disciplines
  • Ability to work under very tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Applicants will be asked to share samples of completed video work for the interview
  • Must be a current Stan State undergraduate or graduate student in good standing

Start Date: 1-2 positions open until filled, requires at least a semester-long commitment

Hours: 8-12 hours/week   Compensation: This is an unpaid, volunteer/academic credit internship

 

Position: Graphic Design Intern

Description: Are you a creative visual storyteller? Are you looking to grow your professional portfolio? We are currently recruiting several self-motivated student graphic designers to join our team in a semester-long volunteer internship. Working with our Creative Team and paired with a graphic designer, our interns create vibrant visuals to bring the Stan State brand to life. Graphics are incorporated into print, web, social media and video compositions featured on the University’s website, on official University social media channels and in campuswide print and digital publications.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Create and design print and digital deliverables for web, social media, video graphics, posters/brochures, etc.
  • Adhere to brand guidelines and complete projects according to deadline
  • Retouch and manipulate images
  • Use graphic design software and work with a wide variety of media
  • Partner with the Senior Graphic Designer or University Photographer to capture photos and other visual content as needed
  • Collaborate with the Senior Graphics Designer and Director for Communications and Creative Services to develop design concepts, review and implement feedback
  • Assemble final presentation material for printing as needed

Qualifications:

  • Relevant graphic design course work is preferred
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and dedication for design and visual storytelling
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Excellent knowledge of digital photography, intermediate photo editing, video editing, and animation skills are desirable
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and have the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive attitude and a passion for working across multiple disciplines

Position: Web Assistant Intern

Description: The Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing is seeking dynamic, self-starting students to assist with day-to-day updates and edits for the University website. These internship opportunities are an excellent opportunity to experience a variety of areas of web design and development, marketing, content writing and communications while working in a professional higher education setting. Interns will also assist with projects related to the website redesign and redevelopment project in progress this academic year.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Editing pages on the csustan.edu Drupal site
  • Posting images and photos to the website
  • Cleaning up content and directory structure on the website
  • Assist with web accessibility updates and remediation
  • Build custom website forms within Drupal
  • Helping fulfill, solve and handle web work order requests from across the campus
  • Communicating with University departments and programs regarding site updates and edits
  • Easy/moderate graphic design projects for elements to be used on the web, such as creating banner images and cropping photos
  • Helping current web ambassadors (Drupal editors group) with Drupal questions (will train!)
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication, trouble-shooting and research skills
  • An excellent eye for editing content and familiarity with formatting text; attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Demonstrated beginner to intermediate graphic design skills
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
  • Knowledge and understanding of web accessibility
  • Ability to take on web related project responsibilities independently, with general supervision
  • A friendly, outgoing personality, since you will interact with all university departments and programs
  • Previous experience with a content-management system, preferably Drupal, is a plus
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, is a plus
  • Must be a current Stan State undergraduate or graduate student in good standing

Position: Marketing and Communications Intern

Description: The Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing is seeking dynamic, self-starting students to assist with our marketing and communications efforts. These internship opportunities are an excellent opportunity to experience a variety of areas of marketing, content writing, social media and communications while working in a professional higher education setting.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to Stanislaus State’s social media presence, including scheduling updates for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Collaborate on video marketing projects
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing written content for video scripts, social media, marketing, blog posts, etc.
  • Draft, and learn how to distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Design flyers, graphics, evites and other marketing material for programs and events
  • Attend monthly marketing committee meetings
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications

Qualifications:

  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, marketing/communications, or public relations)
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is preferred
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired
  • Knowledge of HTML and graphic design highly desired
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with media and community contacts, including current and potential donors
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
