Special Events InternAt — The Frida Cinema
The Frida Cinema is seeking an Intern to work with our cinema's Director of Programming and Special Events.
Tasks:
The booking of titles from film distributors; box office reporting; film exhibition technology; non-profit budgeting; strategic program partnerships and sponsorships; and marketing film and live events.
Training:
Intern will get hands-on experience with the cinematic and special events programming of a community-based, mission-driven independent cinema.
Intern will work directly with Trevor Dillon, our Director of Programming and Special Events, at our offices. Training will provide opportunities for experience in fields including:
- Efficient use of Slack: how our Programming and Marketing teams collaborate on campaigns and projects virtually through an online communication system
- Google Spreadsheet: how our team uses Spreadsheets to track progress in our film programming, booking, payments, and per-title marketing campaigns
- Curatorial Programming: how our team applies a curatorial approach to our film programming based on the interests of our community, established genre trends among our audience, and a focus on ensuring diversity of genres and themes our monthly film calendar
- Rentals and Special Events: how our team works with clients to ensure their special events are run efficiently and smoothly
- Communications with studios and distributors: the process by which our team works with film distributors, from micro-independent studios to large studios like Disney, to book their titles for exhibition
- Event production / \\eventizing\\ a screening: how our team identifies opportunities for creating a more immersive filmgoing experience based on a particular tille (for example, themed giveaways, pre-show trivia, etc.)
- Outreach to potential partners: how our team applies creativity to identifying potential community partners to join us for an individual film based on identified parallels in theme (for example, a candy shop for a Willy Wonka screening)
This Internship is an ideal position for those seeking experience in the fields of Marketing, Communications, Theater Management, Film Studies. and Event Production.
- Teamwork: how our programming team works in concert with our marketing and web-content teams to ensure appealing and effective advertising for our upcoming films and events
- Digital / Online Platforms for workflow and communication: how our team uses Slack on a daily basis to communicate and drive programming and marketing forward
- Written Outreach and Communications: how to effectively reach out to potential partners in areas ranging from inviting special guests to attend a screening, local businesses to partner on a screening or series, and other such invitations and appeals for partnership
- Budgeting: how our team prepares a post-event profit-and-loss profile to every screening and series, to further identify trends in both attendance and per-head concessions purchasing
- Basic Graphic Design for marketing purposes: how our team uses Canva, an online graphic design platform that is sharable among teammates, to create graphics for our web and social media marketing purposes
- Non-Profit fundraising: how our team identifies opportunities at certain events to appeal for donations and membership-purchases to a non-profit arts venue
- DocuSign for agreements and payments: how our team uses online platform DocuSign to send out agreements and invoices to venue renters and clients
- Customer Service: how our team works to ensure a friendly, welcoming, and supportive attitude for all guests and clients of The Frida Cinema
- Pre-event preparation: looking at each screening and event with a proactive, analytical lens to determine pre-event what special considerations may be needed, if any, to ensure a positive and smooth event
- Strategic and Innovative Series-building: how to think outside-the-box to package film titles together to provide a deeper educational or comparative context when it comes to genres, themes, and varying filmmaking approaches to the art of cinema
