Opportunity Summary 

Overview

\n

Help Implement a 4 days a week teen focused program in two neighborhoods in Fullerton. Work in collaboration with solidarity’s Garnet neighborhood and Maple neighborhood teen center Leads. Help address two of Solidarity’s 5 Identified Barriers, (a) Educational Inequity & (b) Youth Violence as a means of equipping teens in under-resourced, Latino immigrant neighborhoods.

Responsibilities

\n

Work with a team to implement a teen-focused program that addresses the youth violence and educational inequity barrier by providing options for teens to experience healthy forms of belonging, connectedness, and purpose through activities such as mentoring, educational enrichment, community organizing, outdoor recreation, and fun excursions.

\n

\u25cf Provide a fun, inviting, and inclusive environment for teens to gather together at solidarity’s Maple and Garnet Teen Centers. 

\n

\u25cf Connect relationally with the teens to assess and care for social-emotional needs.

\n

\u25cf Plan and provide homework help and educational enrichment activities.

\n

\u25cf Help program lead with set-up, tear down, and prep of needed materials and activities. 

\n

\u25cf be involved in pre program check-ins and post-program debrief sessions before and after the program. 

\n

\n

Qualifications

\n

\u25cf Full or partial availability Monday through Thursday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm and once a month on Fridays. 

\n

\u25cf Must be comfortable interacting and building relationships with teen students. 

\n

\u25cf Enjoys working with youth age 12-18 and has an ability to relationally engage with them well

\n

\u25cf Ability to communicate and work well with people of all ages and backgrounds.

\n

\u25cf Organized, punctual, reliable  

\n

\u25cf Experience working with teen students preferred, but not required 

\n

\u25cf Flexibility: An ability to pivot and be create when situations demand deviation from original plan. 

\n

1. Be present and engaged with students enrolled in our teen centers providing active listening and ability to engage relationally in a healthy manor.
2. Help teens set personal and educational goals for themselves for the semester.
3. Meet as a team to plan and provide activities for teens.
4. Plan and lead 1-3 group activities for teens.
5. Actively participate in group dynamics, activities, and discussions that lead to a healthy relational attachment with teen students.

Learning Outcomes:

\n

By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to:
1. Build positive relationships with teen students that contribute towards their personal growth and success.
2. Successfully work together with a team of volunteers and staff to accomplish the organizations goal of addressing issues of youth violence and educational inequity in under-resourced neighborhoods in Fullerton.
3. Lead and manage a group of students towards a specific learning goal.
4. Be flexible in a changing environment.
5. Create healthy attachment with teen students that is Trauma Informed.
