Opportunity Summary 

Course Assistant’s will assist professor to improve overall student performance through the increased quality and frequency of student participation and performance.  Course assistant will accomplish this by providing an additional student resource and improve communication by clarifying and/or reinforcing course content, explaining assignments and material through individualized peer tutoring.  Additional responsibilities will include proofreading student drafts, providing feedback and preliminary assignment grading.

Course Assistant is to perform the following duties:
1. Create and maintain a tutoring/review schedule for all major assignments.
2. Collaborate in the development and or revision of both study and exam material.
3. Provide student papers and assignments with preliminary grading and feedback comments.
4. Communicate/Report to professor insight to student academic needs, level of understanding, or other pertinent course information.
5. Maintain student confidentiality of student information, material, and discussions that shared in the tutoring relationship, with the exception of issues relating to Title IV.

Training:

Under the supervision of the PSYC495 Coordinator, Course Assistant will be provided orientation and ethics training as well as monitoring throughout the semester. Professor will provide 1:1 (virtual) training/mentoring sessions to expound on grading rubric and course expectations.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of term, the Course Assistant shall:
1. demonstrate a thorough understanding of course content and the ability to explain that content effectively to others.
2. have a greater understanding of the diversity of student learning styles, abilities, and associated academic needs in order to better engage and provide academic assistance to students taking this course.
3. demonstrate the ability to engage students in the learning process, lead group discussions, and facilitate the dissemination of academic knowledge relevant to the course.
4. demonstrate the ability to critically self-reflect in order to enhance their own academic skills/performance and improve their communication and leadership skills within a diverse population.
