Community Resource Office AssistantAt — CSUF - Housing and Residential Engagement

Opportunity Summary 

    • Providing basic resources to clients like food, housing and essentials. On shift this may look like providing residents resources to basic needs, the ASI food pantry, information on how to apply for housing, and helping residents who did not receive housing locate resources.

    • Motivating others with verbal praise or rewards. This would be done off shift and could possibly include staff recognition, incentives for different events being held for the residential communities, and collaboration and participation in planning of Citrus Awards.

    • Treating clients with respect and high regards, which means accepting clients as they are. This would be demonstrated on shift and would be done by navigating hard conversations and having empathy in heavy situations.

    • Hosting workshops and meetings to discuss important issues in their lives. This could be a mix of on shift and off shift with off shift holding events for residents and on shift holding events during OA meetings and or training. These training and meetings would include topics like positive coping mechanisms, dealing with stress and de-escalation techniques.

    • Possibly collaborating with Dr. Aziz on any programming that she does and any program that she is willing to have support on.

    • Hours of internship would be spliced between both on shift and off shift activities depending on what the demands are and depending on when events may be held

    • Requirement to meet with internship supervisor at least once a month for a 1:1 to discuss internship work, to keep supervisor updated on hour count, and new possibly event ideas.

- General employer orientation (mandatory), bi- weekly scheduled one-on-one mentor meetings, workshops/skills training, overview/contextualization of assigned tasks

Learning Outcomes:

- use motivational training techniques to recognize and appreciate student assistant staff
- utilize training and resources to refer clients to appropriate resources
- co-lead workshops around campus resources on campus
