Opportunity Summary 

Afrotoons is looking for a part-time talented  Illustrator to create high-quality artwork. As the  illustrator, you will work closely with our content development team to develop inspiring artwork and animations. 

To be successful in this role, you should be a highly artistic person with a passion for creative technologies. You should be able to draw, paint and work on digital software in a variety of styles and mediums. Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Brainstorming with the creative writing team to come up with image ideas.
  • Preparing and designing rough draft illustrations/ animations according to client/team specifications.
  • Creating complete illustrations by combining painting, hand-drawn and digitally created images.
  • Refining image design using illustration/animation software.
  • Enhancing the design concept using a wide range of colors and graphics.

Training:

The intern will be provided with onboarding materials which break down the company  goals, teams, resources  and focus for 2024. The intern will be paired with a member from the content team for shadowing opportunities and will meet with myself weekly. Below is a breakdown of the format.

 

One-on-One Meetings (with supervisor and mentor):

  • Frequency: The supervisor will conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with the intern to discuss progress, address questions, and provide personalized guidance.
  • Purpose: These meetings serve as a platform for in-depth discussions, clarification of concepts, and the establishment of a mentorship relationship.
  • Format: Meetings may take place via video calls, allowing for face-to-face interaction and a more personalized learning experience.

Feedback and Evaluation:

  • Regular Feedback Sessions: The supervisor will provide ongoing constructive feedback during the intern's tasks and projects.
  • Scheduled Evaluation Periods: Formal evaluations will be conducted bi-monthly, allowing for a comprehensive review of the intern's performance and growth.
  • Written and Verbal Feedback: Feedback will be communicated both in writing and verbally, ensuring clarity and addressing various learning preferences.

Observational Learning:

  • Live Project Participation: The intern will have the opportunity to observe and participate in ongoing projects, gaining real-world insights into the industry.
  • Shadowing Opportunities: Occasional shadowing opportunities will be provided, allowing the intern to observe key team members from the content team

Open Communication:

  • Accessible Communication Channels: The supervisor will maintain open communication channels, ensuring that the intern feels comfortable reaching out for guidance, feedback, or clarification.
  • Encouragement of Questions: Questions and concerns will be actively encouraged, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

This comprehensive approach aims to support the intern's learning outcomes through a combination of structured guidance, regular feedback, direct instruction, observational learning, and open communication. The frequency and formats of interactions are designed to provide a balanced and supportive learning experience throughout the internship.
