A Community Program Outreach Leader with the Nuestra Voz Parent & Guardian Program will engage with Spanish speaking parents/guardians of Boys & Girls Club of Whittier members through technology or community based educational initiatives. Students will have the autonomy to plan and facilitate morning workshops, classes, and field trips for adult learners (available at least 2-3 days a week Monday through Friday; 8:30 am – 11:00 am) while developing community awareness, leadership, group management and communication skills.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess the technology needs of the community learners, take initiative in the planning, and adjust the lesson plans accordingly to meet the demands of the adults’ practical daily usage of technology.

Create PowerPoint presentations, set up technology and provide the necessary materials for the delivery of an effective class – (all PowerPoints are required to be in both languages English and Spanish and a translator from the team may assist).

Review all PowerPoints, lessons and activities with the Parent Engagement Program Coordinator before an adult class.

Ongoing collaboration and communication with team members.

Be an active participant in community events with the adults (when possible).

Be willing to problem solve any technological or programmatic challenges.

Commit to working for at least one academic school year.

Commit to an average of 12 - 15 hours a week (flexible to work less hours for a service learning class if necessary).

Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contribute to ensuring that facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.

Contribute to creating a fun and safe environment for adults.
-
Build, maintain, cultivate relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., guardians, parents, teachers,
school administration) –which includes, but is not limited to, calling/corresponding with/meeting with
the aforementioned stakeholders.

Assist with overall club programs or special events when needed.

Ensure a productive work environment by working with all staff as a team member.

Participate in weekly staff meetings, when required.

Participate in all Mandatory Trainings.

Assist with any activity reports that are needed.

Contribute to programs, activities and services that prepare adults for success.
Commit to an average of 12 - 15 hours a week (can work up to 18 hours a week depending on time
commitment and work study award if applicable).
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
-
Experience planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of adults or equivalent experience.

Spanish oral, reading and writing skills (will also consider candidates with limited Spanish language skills).

Interpersonal and communication skills.
-
Basic knowledge of computer use including laptops, tablets, iPad, iPhone, Androids, general
computer software, platforms, etc.

Students do not need to have an extensive background knowledge in technology, but an open
mind to learn.

Ability to proactively provide creative solutions within a large, complex organization.

Ability to manage multiple projects, with delivery of intended outcomes within mandated
deadlines.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to negotiate with vendors.
-
Demonstrated ability in working with employees, vendors, and stakeholders.
-
Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications, Background Check, and Live Scan Fingerprinting.

Mandated Reporter Training/Sexual Harassment Training courses to be provided.

Valid State Driver’s License.

Willingness to travel to different sites (within Whittier City) to facilitate the adult classes

Candidate’s own transportation is preferred.

- Training
All volunteers and new hires must go through a background check process and a virtual orientation. They must also do a sexual harassment and mandated reporter training. The coordinator of the program hosts weekly team meetings with the occasional 1-1 meeting to go over areas of growth and checking in with the students. All college students are trained by the coordinator and use the program handbook to guide the program as a template for workshops, and skills needed. - Learning Outcomes
Be intentional with lesson and be effective with communication.
Develop academic Spanish and professionalism working with Spanish speaking adults.
Enunciate, project voice and implement tonal variations.
The practice of developing effective PPTs in the program will help when the students are holding future management positions in business organizations.
Structure is emphasized: meeting deadlines, being on time, etc.
When employed - what and how are they developing their \\added value.\\
Learn to get into the practice of evaluating/reflect after a project, activity or class - identify positives/areas of growth and next steps for the following class.
Developing leadership skills by identifying needs and taking the initiative to develop our program further to better serve our community.
