Educator AssistantAt — Bionerds

In this position, the student will assist the Educator (s) at Bionerds biology workshops for kids from Kindergarten through 8th grades. They will engage with and assist the kids with hands-on activities and experiments and set and clean up the classroom. The student will assist the Educator (s) with class supervision and management. They will assist with check in/check out of students and collection of paperwork from parents. On occasion, the student will assist the Educator (s) in preparing and packing program and activity items. They will be expected to be highly organized and flexible as they will attend several different locations to assist with our program.

Tasks:

• Assist Educator (s) in clean up and set-up before and after programs.
• Assist children K-8th grade with hands-on biology activities including, dissections, experiments, etc.
• Assist in student check in/check out before and after programs.
• Assist in collecting paperwork from parents before programs.
• Assist in preparing and packing for classroom activities.

Training:

The student will undergo an initial orientation and orientation period upon beginning the internship. This orientation will include informing the student what their expected duties are, the requirements of our program and the outlines of the types of programs we offer. In addition, the orientation will include work guidelines, emergency procedures and classroom guidelines. The student will shadow and assist different Educators in the company, observing classroom management types and teaching styles. The student will attend monthly meetings to discuss the programs and any questions/concerns.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able implement classroom management techniques and strategies with classrooms of students from various ages, grades and backgrounds. The student will also be able to demonstrate age-appropriate hands-on activities related to biology fields.
