National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists InternAt — The National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists

Opportunity Summary

The National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists is seeking motivated interns with an interest in psychology or marketing who are eager to gain real-world experience in the mental health field. This opportunity is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to explore how a psychology degree can translate into meaningful and diverse career paths.
We’re looking for individuals with strong computer skills, working knowledge of Excel and social media platforms, and confidence in communicating both over the phone and in person. A proactive attitude and curiosity about the inner workings of private practice are essential.
Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting both the registry and private practice development through Laguna Beach Counseling. You’ll learn about marketing, client outreach, professional visibility, and what it takes to build and sustain a successful mental health practice.

TASKS
As an intern, you will work one-on-one with Kathleen Wenger, MA, LMFT, LPCC, to support both the marketing and operational aspects of the registry and growing a private practice. This role offers hands-on experience in promoting the practice’s online presence while also contributing to outreach and visibility through various in-person and community-based projects. You’ll assist in creating and updating the company’s websites, brochures, and social media platforms, while also collaborating with LMFT interns to enhance visibility for their services.
Additionally, you'll help organize and promote support groups led by the interns, and gain valuable insight into the licensing, application, and credentialing processes for mental health professionals. This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in the intersection of mental health, marketing, and clinical practice management.

- Shadow both Kathleen and the practice manager to gain firsthand experience in the day-to-day operations of a private therapy practice and a nationally run MFT registry, learning the systems, coordination, and leadership involved in managing both effectively.
- Provide training on the recruitment process and guide interns in understanding the key qualifications and strategies counselors need to build a successful and visible professional presence.
- Educate interns on APA standards and guide them through the fundamentals of ethical and effective marketing for private practice, including online strategies such as website management and social media campaigns, as well as physical marketing through brochures, ad placements, and local outreach initiatives.
- Gain an understanding of the insurance credentialing process, including key requirements and best practices, while also exploring what helps emerging professionals stand out as they begin their careers in the field of psychology.
