BGCP Intern for After-School ProgramAt — Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena

Opportunity Summary 

Intern will work with groups of Club Members ages 6 through 17. Areas of involvement include PowerHour (assisting students with school assignments), Tutoring for subjects which require additional assistance, assistance with other activities and programs that focus on Arts, STEM, Healthy Habits, Financial Literacy, etc.

Tasks:

Homework help four days a week
Tutoring Club Members on subject matter they are struggling with (once a week)
Assist staff in the preparation of materials for daily activities and help lead the activities with the kids.
Assist in identifying behavioral situations between Club Members to staff
Assist staff in administering positive correctional actions
Rotate between the four age groups (6-7, 8-9, Tweens and Teens) to observe differences in age groups
Rotate between the four Site locations to observe how demographic differences impact the Club Members' experiences
Report on a weekly basis with the Site Supervisor to discuss activities, groups worked with and lessons learned

Neither our volunteers or staff are ever to be alone with children. They must always be in line of sight of staff and are always working in tandem with our Youth Development Professionals. 

Training:

Orientation on the organization, specific characteristics of our volunteers, and tutoring methodology
Online training for Mandated Reporters to spot and respond to minor abuse
Online safety training for helping maintain a safe environment for our minor Club Members

The intern will check in each session with our Front Desk where they will receive their assignment for the day. I will meet on a weekly basis with the intern to review activities and to provide feedback and input on what the intern has done and/or could do for the next week. 

Learning Outcome:

Able to work with and positively impact multiple age groups from elementary through high school
Follow directions and guidance provided by Youth Development Professionals and Branch Directors
Recommend, develop and implement adjunct programs that extend and enhance the standardized programs we provide

Supervisor will check in with intern weekly and will solicit input and feedback from the Youth Development Professionals they will be working with.
