Orange County United Way, United for Student Success Intern Position:

This position will involve supporting the Orange County United Way (OCUW) United for Student Success (U4SS) team in their roles and duties in promoting college & career readiness and work-based learning programs in Orange County, as well as taking on projects to contribute to the goals and impact of the U4SS team’s programming. The United for Student Success Intern will be required to attend U4SS community and school events, meetings, and work with school district partners, and high school students through our 10+ programs and activities.

As an intern for the U4SS team, your role will consist of:

·        Participation in virtual and in-person work with students in corporate speaker events or at business site visits.

·        Participation on conference calls, meetings, field trips, and all other activities with the OCUW U4SS team.

·        Conduct research and organize data on the community impact of the OCUW U4SS team.

·        Support and lead presentations during classroom visits and other off-site events.

·        Shadow established professionals in their roles within the OCUW U4SS team.

·        Assist the OCUW U4SS team in various tasks, such as event coordination and research, as needed.

·        Support in social media and marketing.

·        Assist with communication of educational events through multiple social media outlets, e-newsletters, blogs, etc.

·        Participate in professional development activities within the organization.

Internship Requirements:

·        Must be enrolled in college

·        Commit to 3-4 month internship

·        15-20 hours / week

o   Preferred working schedule (Mon, Tues, Wed| 9 Am - 5 PM )*

o   *Other schedules can be negotiated

The role of an OCUW U4SS Intern will directly impact students’ lives and contribute to their success in education and career. You will gain insight into the groundbreaking Work-Based Learning work that OCUW does to implement solutions and support to social issues in Orange County. This position will focus on influencing the education goals of the OCUW.

·        Computer Skills: (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Documents, Google Sheets, and Google Forms)

·        Interaction with students (Children and Adolescents)

·        Networking

The role of an OCUW U4SS Intern will directly impact students’ lives and contribute to their success in education and career. This position will focus on influencing the education goals of the OCUW.

Training:

Intern will participate in our onboarding process and general training, which includes, but not limited to, weekly team meetings, weekly one on one mentoring, and job shadowing. Shadow established professionals in their roles within the OCUW U4SS team.

Learning Outcomes:

1.     Learn the organizational structure of the Orange County United Way U4SS program management provided with various community and corporate partners.  

2.     Learn how the Orange County United Way and other organizations fit into the public education system.

3.     Learn skills in establishing and maintaining relationships with partner agency staff and clients, including persons of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

4.     Develop and utilize interpersonal communication skills to support the Orange County United Way programing, through collaborative meetings, newsletters, social media and other forms of communication.

5.     Gain skills in the evaluation of education programs.

6.     Learn about current and potential sources of funding to support education programs.
