Healthcare Administration InternAt — Orange County Care Hospice
We are looking for ambitious, enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Healthcare Administrative Interns. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in healthcare office administration and patient care coordination while working with a team of professionals who are passionate about providing the best end-of-life care to our patients and their families.

Duties
- Provides administrative and clerical support as assigned
- Filing, scanning, and faxing important protected health information of patients while maintaining HIPAA compliance
- Running background checks and Office of Inspector General searches to ensure personnel compliance with hospice policy and procedures
- Assist the Compliance Officer with reviewing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with healthcare standards
- Running audits on patient and personnel files
- Support intake team by creating patient consent form packets and running patient eligibility monthly
- Answering phones to assist patients and families or help to make phone calls
- Entering and extracting data and ensuring proper medical documentation
- Create informational content for patients and their families
- Editing and compiling documents and forms through Adobe Acrobat
- Assist with mailing bereavement letters, thank you cards, and other communications for Orange Hospice to patient families, hospitals, clinics, and other affiliated organizations
- Assist in planning events such music concerts or enrichment activities to aid in patient care or employee retention
- Reach out and engage with potential business partners to discover collaboration opportunities

- Background/ areas of study related to healthcare, public health, business administration, public administration, communications, etc., or is interested in starting a career in the above-mentioned fields

- Attention to detail
- Fluency in Korean or another language is a bonus!
Training:
During the Healthcare Administrative Internship, students will undergo comprehensive training to ensure a well-rounded and immersive learning experience under the direct supervision of the Community Liaison. The training will include a mandatory comprehensive internship orientation for students to receive an in-depth introduction to the operations and functions of hospice care, our philosophy, values, and mission. It will also cover the overall structure of the hospice setting and how all departments coordinate to provide excellent end-of-life care. This will be supplemented with monthly mandatory in-service training and every intern will work closely with the Community Liaison during their shifts for any support they may need.
Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of the Healthcare Administrative Internship, the students will have learned the following:
1. Data Management and Healthcare Administrative Support:
The intern will have gained hands-on experience in healthcare administrative tasks, including running patient eligibility checks, ensuring compliance with hospice policies and procedures, running audits on patient and personnel files to ensure they are up to date and properly documented.
2. Comprehensive Understanding of Hospice Coordination:
The interns will develop a thorough understanding of hospice operations, including how the office functions and coordinates patient care. This involves learning the intricacies of patient care coordination, assisting with creating field staff schedules, supporting the bereavement team with family calls and bereavement letters, and facilitating communication with patients, families, and health facilities.
3. Patient, Family, and Community Education:
The interns will have learned how to put together educational material in different forms for patients and their families, as well as the community, about hospice care and how to navigate the stresses and scenarios they might encounter while being on hospice care.
