Hospice volunteer-internAt — Providence St Joseph Hospice
Students will receive volunteer training in hospice and palliative care programs. Direct pt contact as “volunteer,” assist with office staff, attend “huddle\\ office staff meetings, shadow interdisciplinary team members (RN, SW, Chaplain).

Tasks:
\n
Assist Hospice departments in various administrative tasks. Work collaboratively with our medical records department updating patient records and patient logs. Work with confidential patient records efficiently and maintain the safety of PHI. Assist the bereavement department with letters to the bereaved families in our communities. Patient assessment calls, call our patients and caregivers to offer volunteer support and provide information on the Hospice volunteer program.

Training:
\n
Hospice volunteer training program includes Hospice philosophy, bereavement, safety, infectious control, HIPPA, communication and boundaries. As well clinical observation and discussion and administrative duties.

In addition, we have safety training and emergency preparedness. We have competencies relating to hand hygiene, emergency PPE. Our shadowing consists of task related administrative work and shadowing patient care visit with the volunteer coordinator and/or hospice disciplines, RN, SW, and chaplain. The interns will learn Hospice philosophy and end of life care, they will also learn communication and compassionate encouragement. Interns report to the volunteer Coordinator weekly for check-ins and signing off on internship hours.
