Academic Advising & College Counseling InternAt — Advance!
Advance's main goal is to provide free college counseling to the low-income population of La Habra and it's surrounding areas. While interning at Advance you will familiarize yourself with the forms of counseling in which we partake in. Advance! provides information and assistance on financial aid as well as assisting in the all-inclusive college admissions process of finding colleges to apply to, all the way to deciding which college to attend. Advance! assists hundreds of students, with numbers growing each and every year, our intern will be tracking and analyzing our numbers in order to provide the most accurate account possible. We must maintain an environment that not only invites our students and their families to seek assistance but that also takes every opportunity to inform them. In these ways, Advance, with your help, hopes to provide the most welcoming and informative experience for low-income students and their families.
Tasks:
-understand and assist in Financial Aid services (general college info)
-assisting students in filling out Financial aid paperwork such as applications for grants and scholarships
- assist in mentoring on general college and career topics
-Assist in Daily Office activities
-greeting students and parents when they arrive
-assisting them with sign-in and registration and making sure all forms are filled in correctly
-have an understanding of the daily operations of a non-profit
-data intake and analysis
-entering sign-ins and registration sheets into a database of students
-pulling up necessary data and interpreting it
-advertising
-editing flyers
-gathering required materials for events and outreach
-event planning and outreach
-learning what is necessary for a successful event and helping achieve that (materials and personnel)

1. Initial Orientation (mandatory)
