Human Resources Intern

 Purpose and Principle Responsibilities:

Under general supervision and following established procedures, provides paraprofessional and clerical support in the development and administration of Human Resource programs in such areas as employment, employee relations, and personnel records.

 Essential Duties:

  • Maintains Human Resources records and files; entering and maintaining accurate data in human resource information system. Enters and prepares status change reports to monitor personnel transactions.
  • Coordinates assigned employment activities, covers requisition, job posting, screening applications/resumes, and scheduling, interviewing, verifying references. May pre-screen and refer applicants to Human Resource professionals for further qualifying interviews.
  • Learn about the company’s HR policies, employee benefits, and other HR-related stuff to be able to respond to any internal staff inquiries.
  • Assisting in the planning of company events.
  • Work in co-op with HR staff if needed to complete annual HR duties

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or studying toward a degree in human resource management or related field.
  • Proven experience working in an office environment.
    Working knowledge of U.S. labor laws.
    Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information System) software is advantageous.
    Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
    The ability to work as part of a team.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
    Effective communication skills.
    Detail-oriented.
    Must be able to administer established programs with general supervision.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will have a general understanding and/or exposure to several branches of human resources. They should be able to understand what skills are need to continue down the path of choosing HR as their career choice.
