Employment and Training Program InternAt — Ready S.E.T. OC (formerly Orange County Youth Center)
The City of La Habra holds a grant for the Employment and Training program that provides services to transitional aged youth (14-24) who are experiencing barriers to education, employment, housing and other vital services. The student intern would assist the program staff while working directly with youth participants.
Duties would include the following:
- Provide case management support
- Contact program participants at minimum monthly, via text, phone, email or in-person to assess needs and/or progress.
- Conduct in-person/virtual workshops on topics related to work readiness, resume building, personal development, financial literacy, and other training.
- Mentor/tutor students enrolled in high school credit recovery program
- Some clerical support as related to case file management, data entry, service log tracking, and filing.
- Recruitment and outreach such as contacting community partners, attending outreach events and community center activities.
- Participant in staff trainings
- Conduct weekly virtual orientation presentations
Shadow a case manager on monthly client meetings.
Review client files for accuracy, including filing of program documents.
Assist case managers with enrollment process for new participants.
Administer assessment tests to program participants.
Provide career exploration services to clients.
Research and share community resources with program participants.
Training:
The student will shadow case managers to learn the role and responsibilities of the case manager.
The student will attend weekly staff meetings, supervision with coordinator, and review pertinent training materials.
Learning Outcomes:
The student will learn how to work within the policies and procedures of the program contract.
The student will learn about population specific community resources.
The student will learn assessment skills.
