Job Description    

 

The Development and Event Intern is a member of CureDuchenne’s Development Team and plays a key role in raising funds and supporting fundraising initiatives to advance the mission of the organization. The Development Team is responsible for generating the majority of income for the organization and requires highly skilled and strategic team members. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Special Events, the Event Coordinator and Project Manager is responsible for supporting signature events and regional fundraising events and logistics in support of CureDuchenne’s Development efforts. The Development and Event Intern supports various fundraising initiatives and will be assigned projects designed to move donors and prospects along the philanthropic continuum. This role supports the Development Team in managing relevant relationships (sponsors, contractors, etc.), and the development of strategic working relationships with Event Advisory Boards and various committees for the purpose of event and revenue growth. The Development and Event Intern with a high degree of organization, attention to detail, critical thinking, sophistication, and creativity. This position works two 6-hour days in our office in Newport Beach, CA, and may require 5%-10% of travel and occasional work on the weekends.

 

Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Assist in the production of various fundraising events, working with the Development Team and Leadership to determine and execute event financial goals and metrics related to pre-determined budgets, sponsors, attendees, tables, etc., and other event objectives.   
  • Participate in soliciting, securing, and coordinating silent auction items
  • Partner with the Event Managers to create planning and event timelines
  • Inputting data into the system to ensure that projects continue to move forward 
  • Givesmart support which includes but is not limited to: 

  1. Help with troubleshooting/ticket sales
  2. Uploading Auction Items 

  • Assist with the production of small cultivation events 
  • Proof marketing materials and content 
  • Assist with the day of events
  • Coordinate and collaborate with all CureDuchenne departments as needed.  
  • Other duties as assigned by CureDuchenne Leadership. 

  

Scope  

  • Applies policies and procedures to resolve issues. 
  • Works individually and on departmental projects. 
  • Participates in cross-functional committees. 
  • Reports to Senior Manager of Special Events and provides regular status updates. 
  • Builds internal and external relationships and supports culture through daily interactions.

Training:

*One-on-one mentoring

*Shadow major event production meetings and brainstorms, this includes but it is not limited to: a multi-day gala, a large family conference that is out of state, and a two day golf tournament

*Assist and Shadow on sight for three of the companies largest events: Napa in Newport, Futures, Getzlaf Golf Shootout

*Assist and Shadow Marketing Director during event days to ensure that the intern is learning how to create social media campaigns and ultimately executing them herself

*Assist with day of media and social media campaigns on event days

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this academic internship, the student will be able to:
*Build an event plan and execute a successful event
*Be able to create and execute a social media campaign for an event, specifically a day of plan
*use critical thinking and creative solutions to ensure that an event is continuing to move forward smoothly, efficiently and ensure that it hits its goals.
*Manage multiple projects at once and communicate with Senior Managers/Directors to ensure that the event is on track
