Position: Play by Play Broadcaster
Department: Athletics – Sports Information
Reports to: Sports Information Director
Hours: all home games
Compensation: internship credit
General Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Read all organization scripts before the start of the contest
2. Accurately pronounce all Hope International and competitor names
3. Ability to offer commentary on the game and quickly summarize what’s happening during the game
4. Be familiar with the rules for volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball
5. Be familiar with the sport, the teams that are playing and their players
6. Arrive an hour before prior scheduled games
The Sports Information Play by Play Broadcaster position will begin August 2024 and end at the end of April 2025 with the conclusion of the baseball and softball season. It is assumed that the Play by Play Broadcaster, in accepting the position will make a commitment to commentate for all Royals home game live streams for the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, baseball and softball for the academic year.
Time commitment:
Hours will vary depending on how many home games there are during each week. Basketball and Volleyball games will take place at the Darling Pavilion on the campus of Hope International University in Fullerton, CA. Baseball games are played at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA and softball games are played at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA. Soccer games are played at the OC Great Park in Irvine, CA.

Training:
An initial orientation will be provided to familiarize the intern with equipment they will be working with.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to provide play by play analysis of a college athletics event, be familiar with NAIA teams and players, be familiar with Hope International teams and players and have a good understanding of the rules of the games.
